Piney Branch

Time: 21:35

Easy evening run around Piney Branch Park and the neighborhood. My right hamstring and left hip flexor were about as tight/sore as they have been recently, but I didn't start to feel the hip flexor until about 15 minutes.

This was a pretty good day to get mentally started with the come back, as I got pumped up watching the Boston Marathon this morning at work. I was happy to see Nick Juravich ran a PR (2:51:32). Taylor caught the end of the race in Boston and got this great shot of Ryan Hall:

I Was Stirring...

Time: 48:30
Distance: 7 mi.

After a mediocre night of sleep, Taylor and I got out for an early morning run before the kids got too anxious about being able to open stockings, presents, etc. It was an easy jaunt, and despite the bad weather of the weekend, it was over 40 degrees at 6:45 am. We went out-and-back on some rural roads in Wayland.

ARHS Alumni Thanksgiving Run

Time: 37:00 (?)
Distance: 5 mi.

Annual Amherst High School cross country alumni Thanksgiving run from the Keene residence. We did a loop on Mill Lane, the bike path and back through the South Amherst common. I'm turning the corner on being sick.

The Charles

Time: 28:07
Distance: 4 mi.

Early morning run with Taylor after watching election returns last night in Boston. We had a lot to talk about, but had to try to finish up in time to move our cars. Mine was fine, Taylor's got towed. No fun.

South Boston

Time: 65:00
Distance: 9 mi.

I met Taylor early in the morning and headed over to the Ollie Road Race, which he was running. It was mercilessly hot and humid, which did not bode well for performances in the race and pretty much everyone coming in looked taxed from the weather. I warmed up with Taylor, ran around during the race, and cooled down with both Taylor and Chris Gould.

While I originally considered running both this and the JCCRI race in Providence tomorrow, I was definitely glad after watching this that I was waiting.

Brant Point Runners 5k

Time: 62:00
Distance: 9.5 mi.

Goal: run hard, win, enjoy getting on the line with TAW
Race: 1st, 16:25.9 (5:32.5, 5:14.4, 5:08.2)

The race goes near Brant Point and the Brant Point Lighthouse

Taylor was invited by someone who saw him running to hit up this "road race" which seems more like a weekly fun run put on by the Brant Point Runners club. We really had no idea what to expect and when I got there I had to tell the woman I signed up with that, no, I did not know my way around and, yes, I did expect to be near the front. Oh, and there was no pace car/bike and they didn't close off the roads. And the course record was "either 16 or 17." There don't seem to be any results online, but the next guy was 18:10ish and then Taylor was third in 18:20-30. I ran the first 1/2 to 3/4 miles with the other leaders and then took off.

Run To The Beach, Nantucket

Time: 82:40
Distance: 12 mi.

Morning run with Taylor from his place on Nantucket in the town of Nantucket out to the beach near Maddaket (I believe) and back. It did get a little hot by the end, but overall the weather on the island seems fairly mild. I always like running with Taylor, who is getting back into running fairly seriously now. There are bike paths along many of the bigger roads, which are great for running.

Mt. Orient

Time: 66:50
Distance: 9 mi.

Afternoon run from Nick's house on the classic Mt. Orient loop through Amethyst Brook. Taylor and John came with me and Nick brought two friends from Chicago. This is some of the best running I've done anywhere.

Brandywine State Park

Time: 57:05
Distance: 8 mi.

Trail along Brandywine Creek

Morning run with Taylor in Wilmington, Delaware. We headed over to the Brandywine State Park, which was near our hotel. We ran there on a previous visit to Wilmington and knew that there were some trails. After exploring a bit we found the trail that runs along Brandywine Creek. Body feels good and my hip is much looser than it has been, which is surprising after the long-ish run and drive yesterday.

South End

Time: 30:00
Distance: 4 mi.

Easy run with Taylor in Boston in the afternoon. It is hot hot hot. I'm not great with Boston geography, but we headed down to the South End this time. Did I mention that it was hot?

Tour de Boston

Time: 51:35
Distance: 7.5 mi.

The Back Bay neighborhood in Boston from the Prudential Center

Met Taylor after he got done with work in Boston and headed out for a run in some of the nicer areas of Boston. We went from his place in Back Bay up to the North End and back by the Garden where the Celtics were preparing for Game 1 of the NBA finals. Lot of hoopla ovah theah.

Week of May 12 – May 18

Distance: ~35 mi.

My last week in Austin was another easy one running-wise. I finished school by turning in a paper early last Friday, but had to pull together my life and try to enjoy the city for one last week. Taylor got in late Wednesday night and we got in a couple fun easy runs on IF. Sunday morning, I hit the road… Goodbye Texas.

Echo Hill, Harkness

Time: 48:00
Distance: 7 mi.
Map

Easy evening run with Taylor and John Tyson. Legs were a little bit dead this morning so I was wondering how they might feel this afternoon, but they were definitely better after being "warmed up."

South Amherst Loop

Time: 49:20
Distance: 7 mi.

Easy double in South Amherst... okay to go a little farther, because I won't have a long run this week. Went on a very southern Amherst (into Belchertown?) run from chez Rosen with John, Bob, TAW and Brian Bissel. Pretty tired by the end and a little too close to eating, but a fine way to fulfill my one full day in Amherst.

Great Falls Park

Time: 41:07
Distance: 6 mi.

The falls at the turn around point.

After an epic night of driving and about 3 hours of sleep at Steve Bogden's house in Arlington, VA we all headed out for a morning run at Great Falls Park. This place looks really nice and could definitely be a good spot for moderately long runs. Pretty tired, but enjoyed the run.

Little Rock

Time: 40:57
Distance: 6 mi.

Day two of the trip landed us at the Cochrine's house in Little Rock, AR. After a decent night's sleep at their house, Taylor and I went for a nice run in Aslopp Park, which is their house. It was a bit hilly and we weren't blazing, but it was overall a good run. Body, particularly hips still a bit tight, but 6-8 hours of driving isn't helping!

Caprock Canyons

Time: 47:18
Distance: 7 mi.

The road trip has begun... after 500 miles of driving from Austin to the Caprock Canyons State Park, Taylor and I went on a pretty easy run, but our tough desert surroundings took their toll. Dehydration, killer flies and the hot sun all made this a bit tough.

Greenbelt

Time: 37:18
Distance: 5.5 mi.

Nice easy jog on the Greenbelt with TAW. Water was very high, so there was some mid-run swimming which was nice. Strangeness continues with right calf.
